The purpose of protests is to bring issues to the fore of political discourse. They were wildly successful in doing so. They brought the conversation to the lips of the entire nation. They successfully dismissed and obliterated the it is not time to talk about the politics of guns after a tragedy. We are still talking about gun control a month out from the event. They have done what no one else could accomplish. They pushed the NRA bought and paid for Republican legislature to pass meaningful gun control in Florida. They defeated the lobbying of the NRA against said legislation. They have forced the lethargic Republican's into actions in support of gun control.

By any measure the movement has been wildly successful.

assault weapons are overwhelmingly what most people are talking about. Given that automatic weapons are already banned and no one really talks about pistols.
