I think the break-down occurs where something one person has done gets projected onto an entire political party.
If each side were to hold the entire other side accountable for the actions of the most extreme individual then there is no way anything could ever get done in the USA again.
We simply cannot operate that way.
It's not realistic.
If you find one pundit who calls Trump a 'Russian Asset,' particularly as a part of an opinion piece, that doesn't represent the views of the network or the organization. Many clearly say so.
Pretending this is 'what the left thinks' is an exaggeration.
There is no way an accurate view of American politics can be had which substitutes exaggerations for reality.
Instead, one can go from one little exaggeration up to another and the next thing ya know "the entire left wants a totalitarian socialist state."
Which, basically, is North Korea.
And no, there is actually zero likelihood that will ever come to pass in the USA, even if Democrats are elected.
It certainly won't be happening if we Elect Joe Biden President Of The USA.
They really are desperate when the censure based on ideology.
