I'm disappointed that SALT deduction wasn't completely eliminated. Think of the effect of tens of millions of blue-state denizens suddenly confronted with having to pay their fair share federal taxes for the first time in years?

I'd also like to have seen child deductions done away with. Why should I subsidize other people's living expenses?

Religious exemptions and charitable donations should not exist, either. Virtue signal on your own dime, takers.

Then there's the entitlements that continue to suck the life out of the Treasury. It's funny that liberals don't think about "the grandchildren" while they cash their boomer checks and go to the subsidized doctor/hospital with their Boomer problems.

So, the standard deduction just doubled. Somehow I was so focused on corporate rates, new tax brackets, and SALT, that I missed this little tidbit.

fwiw, on our local (Bay Area) news tonight they were talking about the affects of the bill (locally) and they said if you make over $100K and own a home you will see your tax bill go up because of the reduction in the deductions people can take.

No the individual tax cuts expire in 2025, not because of the bill, not because of the republicans, and not because of Trump, but because of a Senate budget rule known as the Byrd rule and because ten democrats wouldn't cross the aisle to get the 60 votes required to make the cuts permanent.
