Giving fame and riches to young athletes and young people gives our enemies new ways to destroy US.

So you hear that, folks?

No young people should ever succeed because they'll end up making Drummie feel like a loser for never accomplishing anything in his life that could give him a platform to express himself.

I think you're jealous of her success and also resentful of it because you think you're entitled to freedom of expression and other people aren't.

The adult option that rightys never consider is just ignoring her. She is not doing anything to you. If nothing was said, whatever she does would just fade away. Making a big deal about it is playing her game. You lost.
What if nobody paid attention to Kaepernick? He would have been judged by the QB job he did. It would have meant nothing.
Making a big deal out of symbolism is making it all much bigger.

What she said is quoted below. Regardless, she's politicizing a sports ceremony. She can protest whenever she likes, but why disrupt a competition or a ceremony with her fucking drama?

Since LWers often treat every gun owner as a raging maniac, I fail to see why they would do the same with their racism.

Interesting analogy with racism. So, aside from building more ramps and wider toilet stalls, what is your proposal?

A US hammer thrower turned away from the American flag as the national anthem played while she and two other athletes stood on the podium at the Olympic trials Saturday, later saying she was “pissed” that “The Star-Spangled Banner” played as she received her bronze medal.

Gwen Berry — who qualified for her second US Olympic team during the trials — shifted to face the stands rather than the flag before holding up a black shirt that read, “Activist Athlete.”

“I feel like it was a setup, and they did it on purpose,” Berry said of the anthem being played. “I was pissed, to be honest.

“They had enough opportunities to play the national anthem before we got up there,” Berry said in Oregon, where the trials are being held. “I was thinking about what I should do. Eventually I stayed there and I swayed, I put my shirt over my head.
Setting aside the varied opinions in this thread, I don't understand why she felt it was a setup? This isn't her first Olympics. When did she think they would play the anthem?

And carrying a T-shirt which had the words, “Activist Athlete” printed on it was an example of her planned set up of the event organizers, the patriots in attendance, her fellow athletes and/or those viewing her actions from afar and the entire USA.

She was going to surprise everyone by donning the t-shirt at some point of her choosing, to make her statement.

Wah wah wah, the National Anthem spoiled the timing of HER planned set up.

Good.

Don't waste your time quoting me. You lost that privilege a long time ago

It was something to protest. She's labeled herself an activist athlete. That's exactly the show she was putting on for everyone.
It doesn't have to make sense. :)

Yep. Makes no sense. You make your statement DURING the anthem when the camera is on you. If she had an issue to discuss, then do so. Instead, she was angry that they played the anthem? A 'setup'? WTF does that even mean?

This reminds me of the first years of the BLM movement.

why is it worse to turn your back on the flag than using the flag to beat and maim Capitol Police officers?

let's hear it MAGAshits

It's not worse, but that doesn't make it right either.

For the armed MAGA rally in August, all MAGA and Qanon members are required to wear this hat and/or t-shirt:

Aside from all the drama, I can't find what she's protesting, aside from flashing her "Activist Athlete" t-shirt. The link below is just her theatrics and as is her Twitter posts: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/ath...ism-olympic-protest/qwzglxu47z991u4kqbdji1cfm

Berry, an outspoken activist as well as track and field athlete, earned a bronze medal in the hammer throw to earn a berth to the Tokyo Games; during the medal ceremony, she turned away from the American flag and displayed a black T-shirt that read "Activist Athlete" on the front. Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, she said she felt organizers deliberately played the "Star-Spangled Banner" to coincide with the ceremony.

For reasons entirely different than those who stopped watching the Oscars.

You're quite sensitive.

Who knew that a Black woman you never met could have such a drastic effect on your personal feelings?

You should really go to therapy to figure out why people you don't know are so easily capable of controlling you like this.
The fact you've so quickly resorted to personal attacks and false accusations tells me you have nothing intelligent to add on the issue.

This is America. I fully support the rights of all Americans and not some twisted version of special rights for special people since it violates the 14th Amendment.

Every time I read this I laugh. Did anyone ask her when she thought it should be played? I'm still laughing.

She was going to be interviewed by all major news agencies and several smaller ones. She has a Twitter page and access to all other forms of social media. It's not unreasonable to ask all athletes from making public displays during awards ceremonies.

If she wants to drop her hammer and say her piece, she can do that too.
