The U.S. Was Just Downgraded from a 'Full' to 'Flawed Democracy'

While U.S. citizens could once claim to be part of the 9% of people in the world governed by a “full democracy,” they are now part of the near 45% who live in a “flawed democracy.”

That’s according to the Economist Intelligence Unit, which downgraded the U.S. in their 2016 Democracy Index published Wednesday. The move puts the U.S. in the same category as Poland, Mongolia, and Italy.

To arrive at this conclusion, the paper analyzed over 200 countries and considered factors like political culture and political participation.

“Popular trust in government, elected representatives and political parties has fallen to extremely low levels in the U.S.,” the paper’s authors wrote. “This has been a long-term trend and one that preceded the election of [Donald] Trump as U.S. president in November 2016.”

The report sorted the countries into four categories: “full democracy,” “flawed democracy,” “hybrid regime,” and “authoritarian regime,” with the majority of the world population governed by a “flawed democracy.”

I believe, as Human Beings, we are genetically programmed to be social, starting at birth.

It's after that we learn to become tribal.
 
you have to wonder why the US used to be considered the premier democracy -envied by most of the world-
has descended to the shithole status DC has become.

It's not the framework. Separation and balance of powers are an ideal way to have a nimble executive
but legislative authority in the people, and SCOTUS checking them both.

It's hyper-partisanship. "Da resistance" can't even agree Trump is duly elected.
same thing from the Republicans who vowed to make Obama a 1 term president.

It's the Swamp.

When Hong Kong was trying to figure out what type of government to install-they rejected US model because it was broken.

Semantics

A straight democracy never existed even in Athens, saying "we were never meant to be a democracy" is saying nothing, we are a Republic based upon democratic ideals, no nation is or ever was a straight democracy

And yet we hear all the time, from the loony Left, about how we need to abolish the Electoral College, even though you do that you guarantee shutting out the majority of the country in favor of the urban shitholes, for example. We need to return to the Constitution, pure and simple.

Please learn that you are wrong and that your comment is a false dichotomy. The US is both a constitutional republic and a representative democracy. This may come as a shock to you neo-NAZI types Boris but Republics and Democracies are not mutually exclusive.
