The state of Florida has now stopped its medical examiners from releasing numbers about people who have died from COVID-19.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Florida’s state health department intervened earlier this month to suppress the medical examiners’ reports, which regularly showed death totals that were 10 percent higher than the official tallies put out by the state.

For the past nine days, no reports from the medical examiners have been made available to the public, and there’s no indication of when they will be released in the...

Florida medical examiners were releasing coronavirus death data. The state made them stop.

When the medical examiners’ list was available, it showed more deaths than the state’s count.

Tell us Mr. Pulitzer prize winner just what does Florida gain for under reporting covid19 deaths? I can see under reporting cases or even hospitalizations but deaths? Who the fuck cares if it was 1% or 3% lethal? We all know older people are in more danger from the virus than younger people so other than morbid curiosity what does it accomplish?

He forgot to include this fact from his post: "Dr. Stephen Nelson, the chairman of the state Medical Examiners Commission, tells the Tampa Bay Times that state officials have told him they’re planning to remove probable causes of death from the examiners’ report..."

Why would "probable causes of death" be valid in a medical examiner's report?

Sounds like another presidential team member being a team player. Gotta rescue the economy. Screw the people, people can be replaced. If others don't know it's dangerous they are more likely to go out to restaurants and businesses.

They call Florida 'Little New York' because so many New Yorkers go back and forth to Florida.

Big difference: New York has a responsible government. Florida? Well, maybe next time. Florida is a swing state which could go either way. Maybe this will do it. Not everybody accepts being lied to.

Come on folks, this IDIOT really asked this? No one is this STUPID! Are they?

I notice you can't answer the question.

Who told you that the governor "blocks COVID deaths from release by med. examiners"?

Not even your source makes that claim.

Who do YOU think blocked them? What an idiot. They released them. Then stopped! Some cabal of radicalized RWs who love Trump and wanted FLA'S numbers to look good?

I know, I know, they're all DEMOCRATS who decided to stop reporting them to make Desantis look bad. Sure that's it.

One reason for collecting accurate data is for future reference. For current use, knowing where so-called hot spots are is helpful in allocating resources, as well as taking measures to prevent things from getting worse. Florida is not accurately reporting cases, either.

"Florida is significantly under-reporting the state’s COVID-19 testing backlog, a blind spot in the data that could obscure the pandemic’s size and hamper efforts to decide when it’s safe to end restrictions such as social distancing — even as Gov. Ron DeSantis touts the state’s transparency when it comes to coronavirus.

"On its public website, the Florida Department of Health says about 1,400 people statewide are waiting for their test results. But that’s an undercount, the department acknowledged in response to questions from the Miami Herald. And it’s likely a massive one.

"That’s because the state only reports the number of Floridians waiting to hear back from state labs, not private ones — and those private labs are completing more than 90% of Florida’s tests. The state website doesn’t say that its figures exclude the vast majority of pending tests for the novel coronavirus."

EVERY ailment, treatment, test, xray, lab, procedure, infection, OUTCOME--discharged or DEAD going into and out of a hospital has been 'coded' for at least 60 years.

But then the utter lack of general knowledge on this board is staggering. Truly profoundly STUPID people are parked here.
