Do we take his name out of our history books as well? I know that 10th graders are relieved his statue is gone....
No, that is exactly where he belongs, in the history books, not in a place of honor. He should not be honored but vilified for who he CHOSE to fight for. It would be different if he had been drafter and had no choice, but he made a clear choice to join the insurrectionists and launched an army to end the United States of America by killing our solders. murdered Americans.
Hitler is in the history books, but all statues of him in Germany have been removed. All places of honor where he was mentioned have been taken down in shame.
Saddam Hussein is in the history books. Osama Bin Laden is in the history books.
I'm sure you are...So let's get rid of them all....OK, I'm fine with no more statues.

I don't know, I don't pay much attention to that kind of thing unless it's glaringly obnoxious.
There is a monument down the road from me here in DeKalb county to a Confederate that is still standing, but it's been spray painted with "RACIST" across the base of the monument in bright, yellow paint.
I think that thing is coming down soon...they already took down the one in Decatur's town square.
But think of the thousands who must endure reading the history books....they couldn't handle walking past a statue....how will they be able to handle the books and the lessons?...Everything must go for them to feel safe....That is why the statues came down, right?

That's another one who was born in and lives in the North -- Ohio -- and has never set foot outside the state. She's racist to the core, so of course taking down monuments to other racists is hideously painful. Good. lol

The monuments to racism, slavery, and traitors to the Union are coming down because we don't want to be the kind of people who celebrate that sort of thing. You, on the other hand, rejoice in anything that makes certain darker-skinned people look or feel bad. You know, like referring to urban students as "thugs" as you are wont to do. And you wonder why hardly anyone believes your nonsense about being a "teacher."
And don't worry your bigoted little head about the history books. Texas is busy trying to erase the history of slavery in them. Another thing you'd know if you really were an educator. lol
Guess no private collector or Civil War buff or museum stepped up to buy it. That's too bad; some of those statues were very well crafted.
