The reason this differs so much from a pardon is because you have one DoJ who says not only do we have a case, but we believe it is a winning one by bringing it. The court and jury and appeals process all affirm that and they get the guilty verdict and it's upheld in appeals but the subsequent DoJ comes in after the fact... says we want to undue all of this as there is no case here. But they do not offer a single reason or piece of evidence or data.
They make the entire court and jury process worthless saying none of it matters if the next DoJ disagrees.
That is exactly what Trump's DoJ filed. Just a statement they are pulling back the indictments with no evidence, data or reason why the convictions were wrong.
