So all these attacks on Trump for supposedly defending Robert E. Lee look pretty weak unless the critics also want to attack Lincoln.

The CW was NOT about slavery. The idea is preposterous - more media fake news that's been going on for 150 years . Along with the above fact it's also true that:

1. There were 4 UNION states (ky md de mo) that lincoln let practice slavery throughout the war. 300,000 black slaves combined in those states

2. There were many UNION generals that were slave owners throughout the war. Grant himself owned a slave and his wife owned a bunch of them.

1) Lincoln had nothing to with "letting" them practice slavery, idiot. Those states chose to not secede and were seated in Congress.

Hey einstein. If the war had been about freeing slaves, then lincoln would have told those 4 states to abolish slavery or go with the confederates. He did no such thing. He let them stay in the union and practice slavery all 4 years of the war. THINK, white-hating racist liberal.

When you look at the Articles of Secession of all the Confederate States, slavery is mentioned. The main issue was that the Federal government was preventing the EXPANSION of slavery. Get it, dumbfuck?

Don't hand me your make believe bullshit about what Lincoln "would have" done. Those states chose to not secede, idiot. Lincoln had NOTHING to do with that.

Lincoln's main purpose was to hold the Union intact. He said so. Slavery or not.

The secession by the South was about the institution of slavery, idiot. Not the notion of setting them free by the North.

Why you ignorant slut. You know less than trump. When Lincoln asked lee, lee was still in the union army. Then he turned into a traitor by following jefferson davis into the insurrection by the Confederates.

Read the dred scott decision, the fugitive slave law, the Missouri compromise, just for starters.

You're half right. The North did not care about the slaves. But the South didn't care that much either. Hell - only 20% or so of southern adults had slaves. They fought because of tariffs and states rights and the right to secede. THINK, you miserable white-hating racist imbecile.

I was never trying to be right about it, as I don't give a rats ass. I even explained why in my post. So your comment missed the mark so bad, it landed in an open field. Lee was a strong Union choice, until he turned to treason. Besides his obvious faults, he was a strong leader back then. Why wouldn't Lincoln have asked him? It's not like he knew what would unfold when he asked.

Any thinking person, which leaves you out by the way, knows EXACTLY what States Rights meant then and has up until modern times.

I already covered why they seceded. And that common theme was in all of the Declarations of Secession. That theme was preservation of the institution of slavery.
