I'm against politicizing sports regardless of the cause and regardless who does it.

Colin Kaepernick used politics more for personal purposes, but he wasn't the first to politicize sports. Jimmy Carter wasn't the first to politicize sports either, but I firmly believe politics should be left out of sports and those who do it ejected from the field and stripped of any awards.

For the past week, they’ve played the national anthem one time a night at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials.

On Saturday, the song happened to start while outspoken activist Gwen Berry was standing on the podium after receiving her bronze medal in the hammer throw.

While the music played, Berry placed her left hand on her hip and shuffled her feet. She took a quarter turn, so she was facing the stands, not the flag. Toward the end, she plucked up her black T-shirt with the words “Activist Athlete” emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head.

“I feel like it was a set-up, and they did it on purpose,” Berry said of the timing of the anthem. “I was pissed, to be honest.”

That’s the podium they have, if they believe in something that strongly it is the best opportunity for them to express their view, one might not like what they have to say, but I understand why they do it, same strategy advertising employs to sell products

kapernick?

Yes, the white middle-class football player from Wisconsin playing a po' black chil'.

I fully support the right of all Americans to protest whatever the fuck they want, but if I'm paying to watch a football game or Olympics competition, I want to see sports, not fucking politics. Those who sold me the ticket should ensure all ticket buyers have a satisfactory experience. The NFL weenied out by giving in.

Why would anyone want to compete for a country they despise? Move to one you don't, and compete for them. She's only 4th. at best against us anyway. Fuck her.

Sooooooo military personnel should be free to use their "podium" to express dissent?

No one is proposing they be silenced off the field; only to be professional on the field. IOW, when working.

Same goes for other entertainment. Do you really like listening to entertainers bitch about their political views?

Sock, thanks but I covered that indirectly in the OP. Same goes for Muhammed Ali.

Do you think it's good to politicize science? If not, then why is it okay to politicize sports? Rock concerts? Anything else which has paying customers but nothing to do with politics?

Chik-Fil-A, anyone?

He’s black

Shut the fuck up

Playing sports does not include giving up free speach

Correct. However, his employers can fire him for violating his contract just like Walmart can fire Yakuda, jakemax or Son of Revolt for preaching their politics on the PA system while working.
